terms of use

plain language. last updated: September 2026.

// using this service

by creating an identity on plaintxt.app you agree to these terms. you must be at least 18 years old to use this service, or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if that is higher. if you do not agree with these terms, do not use the service.

// prohibited conduct

you may not use plaintxt to:

✗ harass, threaten, or abuse other users

✗ send spam or unsolicited bulk messages

✗ distribute malware, exploits, or phishing content

✗ engage in illegal activity of any kind

✗ exploit or harm minors in any way

✗ impersonate others

✗ attempt to circumvent rate limiting, abuse controls, or block enforcement

✗ use automated scripts to flood, scrape, or attack the service

// your responsibility

you are solely responsible for what you send using this service. plaintxt cannot read your messages and cannot moderate message content — only metadata and reported behavior. this means the responsibility for lawful, respectful communication rests with you entirely.

// service availability

plaintxt is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, message delivery, or that data will not be lost due to infrastructure failure. we keep your messages until you delete them, but we are not a backup service and we keep no backups of our own — if you cannot afford to lose something, keep your own copy of it elsewhere.

// retention and deletion

your messages and files are kept until you delete them. deleting a message, a conversation, or your identity is a hard delete and cannot be undone by you or by us. we provide no message export.

inactive free identities are deleted. if a free identity is not used for 180 days, we delete it together with its messages and files, and its username becomes available to others. we will try to notify you 30 days ahead if you have notifications enabled, but that notice is best-effort and is not a condition of deletion. paid identities are not deleted for inactivity.

burning your identity releases your username. we do not reserve it for you, and someone else may take it immediately.

// storage limits

each plan includes a limit on total stored files — 100 MB on free, 1 GB on Pro and 5 GB on Power — plus a per-file size limit. uploads that would exceed your limit are refused until you delete something or move to a larger plan. we may change these limits, and will not reduce a paid plan's limit without notice.

// screenshots

plaintxt cannot technically prevent screenshots or screen recording. any deterrence features are visual only. the responsibility for not sharing or recording conversations you receive rests with the individual user. consent matters.

// abuse enforcement

plaintxt uses automated rate limiting, block-count penalties, and report review to detect and slow abusive behavior. accounts triggering repeated blocks, spam patterns, or abuse reports may be throttled or disabled. we reserve the right to terminate access for violations of these terms.

// paid plan billing

pro and power subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe and subject to Stripe's terms of service in addition to these terms. refunds are not guaranteed and are handled case-by-case. cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.

// changes to these terms

we may update these terms. material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised date. continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance. we have no email address for you, so we cannot notify you directly — check this page periodically.

// governing law

these terms are governed by the laws of the United States. any disputes arising from use of this service will be resolved under applicable US federal law and the laws of the state in which plaintxt.app operates. by using this service you consent to this jurisdiction.
